AREQUIPA: WHITE CITY HOST OF APEC 2024
Peru once again hosts APEC, after 8 years in its 2024 edition, choosing the White City of Arequipa as one of its hosts, likewise other departments have been considered, such as: Cusco Pucallpa and Trujillo, being the decision of our current president Dina Boluarte in order not to create more centralization. An act that has been recognized by many companies in the hotel industry.
But above all, this event is part of the government policy to address the socioeconomic challenges of our country and strengthen our relations with the Asia-Pacific region, which leads us to hard and active work and thus visualize the importance of APEC as an opportunity to position Peru as an attractive destination for investment, trade, tourism and business.
UNEXPECTED ADVANCES
At the 62nd Meeting of the APEC Tourism Working Group held on August 14, 2023, Mincetur presented two projects to promote the development and modification of the Tourism Sector in the Asia-Pacific Region
The first called “Study and workshop to generate digital tools for the transition to the formal economy of tourism companies in the Asia-Pacific region” which aims to recognize and estimate the main digital tools that can help formalize business in the sector. tourism in APEC economies, the main objective is the general formalization of the tourism sector.
The second is called, “Impact of creative economies on the future of tourism in the APEC region”, characterized by examining the importance of creative economies to boost economic growth and job creation in the tourism sector, one of the goals also set by Mincetur to promote the reactivation of the sector.
At the moment, both projects have the unanimous support of the APEC economies. Their development, it was reported, would require investments close to US$125 billion and US$120 billion, respectively, which would be financed by APEC.
WHAT ARE WE EXPECTING
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) will be held for the third time in Peru and will have a series of activities that began in February and will conclude in November, this allows a great opportunity to position ourselves in two markets that have not yet been explored or exploited in large proportion and from which profits can be obtained in the short term.
